25 objectives, one mission

From nursery schools to disaster relief camps, the Trust Deed sets out a deliberately wide charter so Akshara Charitable Trust can respond wherever the need is greatest.

Education, Vocational Training & Scholarships

  • Clause 6.2Establish Nursery, Primary, High Schools, PU Colleges and Degree Colleges in Arts, Science, Commerce, Computers and Electronics.
  • Clause 6.2Set up Law, D.Ed, B.Ed, M.Ed and other professional courses and institutions.
  • Clause 6.3Run Artisan and Industrial Training Centres, Polytechnics, Engineering Colleges, Nursing, Pharmacy and Medical Colleges, Research Centres and Hospitals.
  • Clause 6.3Establish a Business Management institute and a Physical Education College.
  • Clause 6.4Train youth and the unemployed in tailoring, computer operation, handicrafts, food processing, kitchen gardening and mushroom cultivation.
  • Clause 6.4Offer training in candle and agarbatti making, housekeeping, landscaping, telecommunication and English or foreign languages.
  • Clause 6.9Award studentships, scholarships and stipends, and provide free uniforms and merit recognition.

Health, Medical Relief & Alternative Medicine

  • Clause 6.5Promote Ayurveda, homeopathy and Indian systems of medicine, alongside herbal cultivation and biodiversity conservation.
  • Clause 6.11Conduct free medical camps and support disease detection and eradication research.
  • Clause 6.11Run health and sanitation awareness drives, and distribute medical kits to the needy, poor, aged and handicapped.
  • Clause 6.11Operate de-addiction centres for alcohol and drug dependency, and lead HIV/AIDS awareness programmes.

  • Clause 6.6Run adult literacy classes, non-formal education centres and personality-development, yoga and meditation programmes.

  • Clause 6.7Provide hostels for students and working women, day-care homes, short-stay homes for women, old-age homes and orphanages.

  • Clause 6.14Train farmers in modern cultivation methods, market awareness, and grading and storage practices.
  • Clause 6.15Train rural communities in rural industries, agricultural-implement repair, and motor rewinding and maintenance.

Legal Aid, Rights & Civic Awareness

  • Clause 6.16Run consumer clubs, exhibitions, seminars, workshops, jathas, debates and essay-writing programmes.
  • Clause 6.17Spread legal education awareness and run legal aid programmes, including awareness of the Transference Act.
  • Clause 6.18Run youth welfare and national integration programmes, in both urban and rural areas.
  • Clause 6.19Work to prevent child labour and atrocities against women, and raise human-rights and road-safety awareness.
  • Clause 6.19Stage street plays addressing social evils, including untouchability.
  • Clause 6.24Appoint area representatives to coordinate the Trust's activities, and undertake other acts incidental to its charitable purposes.

Disaster Relief & Fisheries Welfare

  • Clause 6.20Organise service camps during calamities and epidemics, providing free clothing and household articles.
  • Clause 6.20Extend financial assistance to those affected by disaster.
  • Clause 6.21Provide subsidiary support to poor fisherfolk — motors, instruments, and marine boats and engines.

Publications, Fundraising & Sector Support

  • Clause 6.1Promote charity in all its recognised forms.
  • Clause 6.22Print, publish and distribute literature, pamphlets and handbills in support of the Trust's objects.
  • Clause 6.23Organise fundraising programmes and activities.
  • Clause 6.25Offer consultancy to other NGOs on formation, 12(A) and 80(G) registration, and Income Tax Act and FCRA compliance.
  • Clause 6.25Provide fundraising consultancy for Central and State Government schemes and overseas sources.
